Stochelo Rosenberg - Guitar
Mozes Rosenberg - Guitar
Christiaan van Hemert - Violin
Born in a Dutch Sinti Gypsy camp, Stochelo started playing guitar at age 10. His teachers were his father, his uncle, and the records of Django Reinhardt. When he was 12, he and his band won first prize in a Dutch national children’s TV-contest and never looked back. Today, he is a world renowned ambassador for Gypsy Jazz and one of the most popular, in-demand guitarists in the world.
Mozes Rosenberg is Stochelo’s younger brother, and thanks to big brother’s influence, he grew up around some of the greatest Gypsy Jazz players in the world. Like many Gypsies, he started playing guitar at an early age and has recorded with Stochelo and Jimmy Rosenberg, and played with Paco de Lucia, and Joe Zawinul to name only a few. Mozes is a sensitive, all-around player who has that undeniable Rosenberg touch in all that he plays.
Christiaan van Hemert studied violin, double bass and piano at the Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague conservatories. He has produced and participated in countless concerts playing with - among others - the Rosenberg Trio, Mozes Rosenberg, Roby Lakatos, Tchavolo Schmitt, Juan José Mosalini, Sandra Rumolino, Philippe Catherine and as a soloist with The Residence Chamber Orchestra and the Metropole Orchestra. He led his own symphonic orchestra as a conductor/arranger and was both a soloist and conductor in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He toured for eight years throughout Europe as the artistic director and bandoneón player with Tango Dorado with which he recorded four well received CDs and one live concert DVD. Currently he is mostly active as a gypsy jazz violinist and guitarist playing with top musicians in this style around the world.
At any Gypsy Jazz festival in the world this amazing lineup would be heralded as the show “not to be missed” – and you’ll get your chance to see them in North America, but only here at DjangoFest Northwest!
